Description

The James Webb Space Telescope has detected methyl cation (CH3+) in a young star system with a protoplanetary disk that is located in the Orion Nebula. It's the first time the molecule has been detected in space and "is believed to be a cornerstone of interstellar organic chemistry," according to NASA/ESA.
