Hundreds of flights were cancelled, stranding thousands of travellers at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International airport

Then on Monday, another explosion sent a plume of ash and volcanic vapour hurtling 2,000 metres into the air.

Bali’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho wrote in a tweet that the ash cloud was “grey with thick intensity.”

Around 700 residents living on the volcano’s slopes have evacuated voluntarily as a four-kilometre exclusion zone is in force around the summit.

Lava from the eruptions have set fire to forests on the volcano’s banks and “flares of incandescent lava” reached more than a mile from the crater.

Since regular services resumed on Saturday, all airlines have operated normally.

Currently, all carriers are open and flying to and from Bali.

However, officials are warning that this may change at short notice as the highly active volcano continues to show its might.

Virgin Airlines said in a statement on the weekend: “As this situation remains unpredictable flights may be cancelled at short notice if conditions deteriorate.”
Mr Nugroho wrote last night that the potential for “Successive eruptions occurring is still high.”

However, after this latest eruption, he wrote: “Don't be afraid to visit Bali. Bali is safe.”

The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) hasn’t placed any specific travel restrictions on the island of Bali.

However, they do advise you not to travel within the four-kilometre exclusion zone.

Evacuations Ordered As Vanuatu Volcano Emits Clouds Of Ash

SYDNEY —
An erupting volcano is expected to force the population of an entire island in Vanuatu to leave for the second time in less than a year. Volcanic activity has intensified in the past week, prompting the government of the South Pacific archipelago to declare a state of emergency.

Ash clouds have turned day into night on the island of Ambae, leading authorities in Vanuatu to order the evacuation of 11,000 people. The Manaro volcano has been active for almost a year, and after a period of relative calm, it is beginning to stir again.

The director of Vanuatu's Geohazards Department is Esline Garaebiti.

"We're seeing very significant impacts on the island at the moment," said Garaebiti. "For that latest eruption, there's been heavy ash fall in the southern parts, while parts of the north were also affected."

Grey ash has blanketed homes and crops, and emergency officials in Vanuatu are expecting the seismic activity to intensify.

Residents fled Ambae en masse last September, when the volcano began emitting clouds of smoke, and there were signs of hot lava emerging near the surface of its crater. Many have heeded the warning to leave once again. Others, though, say they don't want to go, fearing overcrowding and a lack of services on neighboring islands.
