Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) suggested the launch will loft two payloads into a high-altitude geosynchronous orbit, the combined mass of the two payloads is about 3.7 tonnes. One payload is identified as the TETRA 1 MicroSat to “prototype missions and tactics, techniques and procedures in and around geosynchronous Earth orbit”. Military officials have released no additional details about TETRA 1’s mission. The challenging launch profile of this mission will leave no leftover propellant to recover the center core of the Falcon Heavy, according to the Space Force, so the core stage will be expended. This mission will feature side boosters B1064 and B1065 and center core B1066.

Built by Millennium Space Systems, a subsidiary of Boeing headquartered in El Segundo, California, TETRA 1 was designed, manufactured, assembled and integrated in less than 15 months after SMC awarded the satellite development contract. TETRA 1 is based on Millennium’s Altair satellite platform. In a statement, Millennium said the spacecraft is the first of the company’s Altair-class satellites.
